TURTLE : Mother Earth : Turtle is the oldest symbol for the Earth. It is the personification of goddess energy and the eternal Earth itself.  Turtles also signify longevity, creativity and grounding. Their shells protect them from the few predators the turtle encounters. I think I would like to touch on the goddess energy of the turtle. I never really thought of myself as a goddess in any way. Although I do have an embroidered piece that is folded up somewhere which I might frame one of these days that I created as my goddess. I gave her a name and everything. But back when I made her, I never would have told people she was my goddess. Even now the word goddess makes me a bit uncomfortable.  But somewhere in my soul I think every woman should think of herself as a goddess. We are the beings who make the work of the Gods(or so they think) possible.  We do all the little things men need to have done for them.  We have children and raise them.  We coo...

Turtley Afternoon

Image
Today was a snowy, cold afternoon. Only a couple of inches but enough to make me wish I was a turtle who could fold myself up in a hard shell and keep myself warm. About the turtle, this is a project I did over a year ago. I didn't like the way it showed this way so then I added spirals around it. Feeling a tad under the weather. So tomorrow hopefully I will motivate myself to frame a project, finish a project or be utterly inspired to start a new one.Keep stitchin.

A turtle on a black wool purse. It's for me. I'm going to make it extraordinary so that people will be able to see I am a fiber artist coming and going. I'll make it so lovely they'll stop me on the streets(well I hope so anyway). I've been learning a lot in the school of hard knocks this past month and it's got me tangled up like one of those embroidery thread bunches I am so fond of. But I'm optimistic if nothing else and when one door closes(or slams as it may be) another one opens. This time I will be in control of the door and who I let in and who I keep out. I lost control, I trusted the wrong people with my work, with my life, with my secrets. That's not an easy realization to have, to feel, to have to deal with. But it's the truth. So whether the rest of my journey is a walk, is a jog, is a sprint, I will be the one who chooses the path and the speed and those along for the ride. Sorry for the momentary detour off my happy so called b...
