Trust

Image
This piece is called Flowery Cross, it is framed in a 5x7 black frame and will be available on Etsy. When it comes right down to it we all have to trust and believe in something.  Do we trust the inner guidance of our souls or do we trust the real world? I believe in the power of a dream and the power of my soul.  I also believe it is possible to both trust the real world and trust our dream world. Sometimes we have to take a day job to be able to trust our dreams.  I truly believe in living from my soul and from my heart.  I would not have the life I have today did I not believe in things that others don't ordinarily see.  I believe in synchronicity and happenstance and that everything happens for a reason.  If something is destined to happen it's gonna happen eventually, all we have to do is look around in nature to see that.  Flowers don't have to fill out job applications or trust in their dreams they just grow, naturally and freely.  Bu...

Go Confidently in the Direction of Your Dreams

Image
This love heart will be available on Etsy later on today. Go confidently in the direction of your dreams, live the life you've imagined. It was written by Henry David Thoreau many moons ago and it has been used to inspire millions.  So today I would like to address confidence or lack of it more likely and how I am taking the old rule book ripping out the pages and going confidently in the direction of my dreams. Growing up as I did, I never quite had confidence in myself.  I basically lived in fear.  Fear is one of those emotional states that you just don't even realize is there except for the fact that you plan your life instead of living it.  The idea that all of the abundance of the universe is available to you if you believe is a foreign concept when you are used to darkness, unhappiness and the fear that everything you love will be taken away from you.  That fear is actually a self fulfilling prophecy because it limits how far you are willing to walk ...

Gratitude

Image
This piece is called Red Barn and White Picket Fences it is available at my Etsy shop. Gratitude!  This morning I woke up with a different attitude.  I realized that the more time I focus on what is wrong at the moment the more I lose a little piece of my soul.  So today I've decided to be grateful for all the wonderful things currently in my life and for the dreams I hope to fulfill in the future.  I am grateful for the Red Barn in Burnt Hills where I will be doing an artisan show on Saturday.  I had such a wonderful time when I did the show in the fall.  It was a day filled with really nice people who made really beautiful art so I am really looking forward to Saturday. I am grateful for my son and my husband.  They both have given me much to be grateful for even though the three of us are all moving in different directions.  I am also grateful for the rest of my family and friends both here and scattered to the wind.  I have been...

Dancing and Prayer

Image
This piece is called Dancing.  It is currently and permanently residing in my friend Cheryl's home.  It is a cross that I made early in my hand embroidery artist days.   I like to embroider crosses as usually they are  works that bring peace to me.  Today I had the most remarkable and beautiful of days.  I had forgotten that a couple of weeks ago I switched my shift from morning to afternoon and arrived at 10:00 to find that I was there a few hours too early. Having no where else to go and given the stressful nature of the last few weeks I ventured on to the New Skete Monastery.  What I found there was just beautiful and peaceful and brought a clarity to my life at the moment.  When I first arrived I sat on a bench just watching a beautiful peaceful pond which was so clear you could see to the very bottom.  It was such a lovely sight that I was brought to tears by it's beauty and peacefulness even on a late March morni...

Juggling

Image
This is Juggling. I have to be honest and tell you I'm not quite sure that I like how it turned out. I embroidered it for a call for artists at a gallery my friend belongs to. Didn't like it unframed, don't necessarily like it framed. So it's not going to the gallery. Probably wouldn't have shared it at this moment except I seem to be juggling myself at the moment. Too many balls up in the air and not enough rest to keep them all spinning. I think that is the story of my life. Juggling my life as a mother, as a wife, as a housewife and as an artist. Never seem to satisfy anyone else or myself much of the time. I'm reading Thomas Moore's Dark Night of the Soul and it mentions how we have to accept ourselves warts and all and appreciate the beauty in life. So here I am warts and all, making a piece I don't really like that seems a great metaphor for my life. Except in real life there would be more balls on the floor, less in the air. And in art...
