Mediocrity

Ok so I finally finished Dark Night of the Soul and all the way at the very end of the book it talked about so many people who live their lives in mediocrity never reaching their true potential. That is the whole idea of the book I think. Knitpicking little things so we don't have to think about the big ones, keeping ourselves little at the same time. So onward and upward, it's time to live life more fully and worry about now instead of yesterday or tomorrow(that is easier said then done so don't be surprised if I fall back off the wagon).

He also said the idea of life is to embrace the shadow and make it work for you with the light. That was an interpretation I needed to read so I'm glad I did and as some of the chapters got a little too close to my personal truth I am thrilled to pieces that I finally finished it.

My next book is Eat, Pray, Love which was inspired by a lecture by the book's author on Painter of Blue's blog. I can't wait to read it so I'll comment on it soon.

Today I knit a little more on my bag, watercolored some muslin and sketched my next project. My friend over at Close Knit Friends blog gave me some great advice for color changing knitwear and if you have a chance she makes glorious felted bags. The link is Becky on the Cross blog posting.

I think its so true that many of us live in mediocrity, but i also think that a lot of that is truly down to circumstances beyond our control, it can be difficult to take the decisive steps that will let you fulfil your potential...

Embracing the shadow so "it will work for you with the light." I love the way that is phrased. I never thought of it quite like that before.

More Ornaments

Just passing by. I have spent the day making more ornaments. I am really loving making ornaments this year. I give thanks to Kathy from the Katbird Shop who said that they are little pieces of portable art. It gave me something to strive for. I am enjoying the act of making the ornaments(except for the stuffing which I wish I had a couple of Santa's elves to do). I really enjoyed making Santa's fur on his jacket and his beard and making the french knot sheep so I got up close with the camera so you could see the details. French knots are my favorite, favorite stitch. Also a music recommendation. I am listening to Death Cab For Cutie's Plans which I took out of the library. Very haunting and thought provoking and the most wonderful music to stitch in a meditative way to. For those of you who are Twilight fans they sing the song Meet Me at The Equinox from the movie. Symbols and Circles ReDo

Hi All! I spent my Mother's Day joyfully revamping Symbols and Circles. Still not sure I like it but I like it better then it's previous incarnation, it gave me a couple of hours of blissfully joyful french knotting, it's a bit more interesting, and more reflective of my current work. So that is that and I will now have it at my future shows and maybe it will even make another appearance at Katbird. I am still working on my flame thrower hand and only have a few flamethrowing fingers left. It's on watercolored fabric and the colored fabric makes such a big difference and I enjoy painting on the fabric too. I had a wonderful Mother's Day, nice peaceful and embroidery filled. The Blessings Of Ovation

Today I am thankful for the blessings I have. For the family who love me. For the friends who love me. For my wondrous dog and all the pets I've loved and who have loved me. For the idea of art and creation and the ability of that medium that allows anyone to find peace. Even a tortured soul like me. And for the daily inspirations of life where no one would expect to find them. I was watching Ovation tv the other night and they are doing their Everything is Art week. I am so inspired watching artists and designers and understanding where they come from. More from their work process then the finished project.
