Hand Embroidered Cross on Watercolored Fabric

Hi All! Been busy, busy, busy. I keep waiting for the days when all the hubbub will die down and it just doesn't seem to come. On the plus side I've been bringing my hand embroidered hand everywhere and it is almost finished so I'll have a picture soon(hopefully). I am enjoying the three dimensional aspect of this project so much and there are so many ideas swimming in my head for the future. Including a fish.

This piece was a pleasure to make. I love to make crosses as they are my ode to spirituality. I'm not a big church goer and these pieces show my belief in something greater then myself. I think belief in a greater power is very important but to me church doesn't really seem necessary for this belief. So therefore I make crosses. I've been using the embroidery more as a meditation as a whole lately. I like to turn off the sound and just embroider stitch by stitch. It helps me center.

I'm going to go read my bloggy friends now but please check out the blogs I follow. They never fail to inspire and they show me the universal themes and feelings. Many times when I read a blog I see similarities in our separate lives in our one big universe. See you soon!

I do the same kind of "meditation", although I think about a specific person - especially if I'm making an exchange piece or a gift. I try to think about the things that I know about that person, and how they'll react to the finish piece. It helps me keep a positive mindset when it's something that's time-consuming or frustrating. :)

You are sure right about seeing similarities in our lives in one big universe; though the details vary, the themes and emotions are pretty much the same.

I'm glad you have your embroidery to help you center and find peace. As you know, I do it with finding beauty in nature, and looking at it through a camera.

Just passing by. I have spent the day making more ornaments. I am really loving making ornaments this year. I give thanks to Kathy from the Katbird Shop who said that they are little pieces of portable art. It gave me something to strive for. I am enjoying the act of making the ornaments(except for the stuffing which I wish I had a couple of Santa's elves to do). I really enjoyed making Santa's fur on his jacket and his beard and making the french knot sheep so I got up close with the camera so you could see the details. French knots are my favorite, favorite stitch. Also a music recommendation. I am listening to Death Cab For Cutie's Plans which I took out of the library. Symbols and Circles ReDo

Hi All! I spent my Mother's Day joyfully revamping Symbols and Circles. Still not sure I like it but I like it better then it's previous incarnation, it gave me a couple of hours of blissfully joyful french knotting, it's a bit more interesting, and more reflective of my current work. So that is that and I will now have it at my future shows and maybe it will even make another appearance at Katbird. I am still working on my flame thrower hand and only have a few flamethrowing fingers left. It's on watercolored fabric and the colored fabric makes such a big difference and I enjoy painting on the fabric too. I had a wonderful Mother's Day, nice peaceful and embroidery filled. The Blessings Of Ovation

Today I am thankful for the blessings I have. For the family who love me. For the friends who love me. For my wondrous dog and all the pets I've loved and who have loved me. For the idea of art and creation and the ability of that medium that allows anyone to find peace. Even a tortured soul like me. And for the daily inspirations of life where no one would expect to find them. I was watching Ovation tv the other night and they are doing their Everything is Art week.
