Peaceful Stitching

Stitching has always brought me peace even as a young girl at the side of my grandmother long before I started to sell my work and call myself an artist.  It is literally the only time in my life when I just chill and be.  My grandmother taught me everything.  How to thread a needle, how to do certain stitches, how to use a crochet hook and a knitting needle, how to find peace in a moment.  It has gotten me through many of my most joyful and traumatic moments.

This piece was just an exercise in peace.  A time to just be without a particular destination.  Filled with lovely peaceful shades of blue done in straight stitches and French knots.  A slowly running river or a beautiful blue sky, whichever I was imagining.  A time to just focus on peaceful blues while the world outside is raging.  To quiet the ever present noise in my head.  I hope you like it.

Today I am thankful for the blessings I have. For the family who love me. For the friends who love me. For my wondrous dog and all the pets I've loved and who have loved me. More Ornaments

Just passing by. I have spent the day making more ornaments. I am really loving making ornaments this year. I give thanks to Kathy from the Katbird Shop who said that they are little pieces of portable art. It gave me something to strive for. I am enjoying the act of making the ornaments(except for the stuffing which I wish I had a couple of Santa's elves to do). I really enjoyed making Santa's fur on his jacket and his beard and making the french knot sheep so I got up close with the camera so you could see the details. French knots are my favorite, favorite stitch. Also a music recommendation. I am listening to Death Cab For Cutie's Plans which I took out of the library. Very haunting and thought provoking and the most wonderful music to stitch in a meditative way to. For those of you who are Twilight fans they sing the song Meet Me at The Equinox from the movie. I'm not a Twilight fan but I am a Death Cab For Cutie fan so that is where my interest lies. T

A little joy 002 , a photo by DebraAnn813 on Flickr. I didn't want to end this year without expressing just how joyful this year was. Not the whole year but so much of it. At the end of this year I'm lucky to share my love of family, love of embroidery, love of music with masses. I've had such wonderful opportunities, such wonderful times with friends and family, such wonderful time hand embroidering and I've discovered how easy it is to be happy with a needle in my hand and headphones on my ears!
