Lady in Red

 Hi all!  Today was an indoor day, a little gloomy with the sun going in and out.  A little on the cold side with my condition making me feel quite cold so spent the day embroidering.  Today I embroidered the red mandala hearts on gold silk.  I am so enjoy the simplicity of them.  Very meditative.  Straight stitches and French knots.  Very relaxing.  The other red mandala ornament was made a few weeks ago for the same reason.   I love to meditate to them too.  I put them in my hand and sit very quietly rubbing the design gently with my fingers.  They are very comforting and soothing.  There are times since I got sick that I am just kind of overwhelmed.  Embroidering has always been my go to when stressed, even when I was a kid.  I guess it’s the focusing on the needle and the repetition.  Up and down up and down.  I framed a small art piece today but I haven’t decided whether I want to sell it on Etsy or bring it to Valley Artisan Market.  I will share that in a couple of days.  For now the mandala ornaments/pillows are available on my Etsy shopDebs Tangled Stitches.  Thanks for reading.  Keep stitching. French Knots

It seems I've been tied up in French Knots lately. This is called Sailor's Knot and the coloration is more like the larger picture but I thought the small one was kind of cool and it does show the details. I love French Knots for many reasons. First they are the most mindful stitch in the hand embroidery handbook, you can't be doing 10 different things at the same time as you are doing one french knot. it gives incredible texture to the pieces it is stitched on. Its very versatile, it can be used as one single stitch in the middle of a daisy or you can go hog wild french knotty and make an entire piece out of hundreds and hundreds of french knots. I also think they show the definition and subtlety of each color when colors are changed after a few french knots as illustrated here. But mostly I love them because they are my favorite stitch. If I ever do manage to hand embroider a cocoon for myself, the french knots will have a prominent spot. Sorry it's been a whil

Little Suzy Creamcheese

I wasn't going to write anything today because I really didn't have too much to talk about today artistically. Then I read Chapter 64 in Eat, Pray, Love(the fabulous book brought on by my visit to Art of the Spirit where I saw a lecture by the author). The author calls herself a Little Suzy Creamcheese which means she is social, bubbly and smiling. People who know me in real life would probably call me a Little Suzy Creamcheese. If a garden gnome came to life I would be standing there talking to it after everyone else left. I like to say I'd talk to a wall if it would talk back to me but a talking garden gnome sounds more interesting don't you think? I also thought of Mr. Ed the talking horse but everybody would want to talk to a talking horse wouldn't they?
